Description
The priory of the Order of Saint-Augustin was founded around the middle of the 11th century and was transformed into a abbey between 1134 and 1140. In the second half of the 15th century, King Louis XI launched the reconstruction of the Romance abbey church. At the same time, most convent buildings and the cloister have also been rebuilt. The abbey underwent several destruction during the wars of religion. Later, in the second half of the 17th century, after its association with the Congregation of Sainte-Geneviève, the restoration of the Abbey began under the initiative of the Prieur Nicolas de Saint-Gobert: the abbey was restored between 1665 and 1676 and the conventual buildings between 1679 and 1687, led by the architect François Le Duc, who also built Logis Saint-Gobert in 1668. Revolution, the abbey was sold by lots. Logis Saint-Gobert was used as town hall and public school until 1865.
