Description
Built between 1892 and 1894 at the corner of a place according to the plans of the Vidière architect, this structure is intended to accommodate both the services of the town hall, as recalled by the large wedding hall, and those of the Savings Fund on the ground floor. The main facades are in stone, while the rear facades are brick, giving the building a rich eclectic style. The entrance is at the intersection of the two wings thanks to a corner rotunda surmounted by a large dome, itself crowned with a lantern. This imposing treatment of the facade makes the building a benchmark in the city and strengthens its role of public building, in particular thanks to the reception of municipal services. Inside, the decor is also inspired by the classic style: marble columns support the dome of the staircase, while pilasters decorate the walls of the landing on the first floor. The letters R.F., present on the facade and on the decor of the dome of the stairs, recall that the hotel houses municipal services. The Hôtel de Dreux is one of the two buildings in the Center region, with that of Châteauroux, to have this type of corner rotunda. In addition, he is one of the few to have preserved an almost complete ornamental set, the decor of the wedding hall having been produced by Michon in 1899.
